Agra - The City of Taj Mahal

Agra is the city wherein lies the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage site, a symbol of eternal love, and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Millions of tourists visit annually to witness its architectural grandeur and symmetrical beauty. Situated on the banks of the River Yamuna in the state of Uttar Pradesh, it is a cornerstone of Indian tourism, and a key destination on the popular "Golden Triangle" tour circuit. Agra is brimming with rich history and architectural grandeur of the Mughal Empire, which once had this city as its capital.

Taj Mahal
This ivory white marble mausoleum needs no introduction. It is located on the south bank of the Yamuna river in the city of Agra. Built in 1632 by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The tomb is the centrepiece of a 17-hectare complex, which includes a mosque and a guest house, and is set in formal gardens bounded on three sides by a crenellated wall.

Fatehpur Sikri
A historic fortified city in India founded by Mughal Emperor Akbar (1569-1585), known for its grand Indo-Islamic architecture, including the Buland Darwaza, Jama Masjid, and Panch Mahal. It was built from red sandstone.

Nice photos! I really enjoyed these as they gave me an insight into the sites found in India. What an unusual place, I cant wait to see it for myself!!
