San Antonio - The Alamo City

When you think of Texas you might think of Dallas or Houston but I will tell you about a city that's vibrant, full of amazing historical architecture and a River Walk that's must see and experience.

You might have guessed it by now. Yes I am talking about San Antonio.

Let's start with Missions National Historical Park or simply called 'Missions of San Antonio'. This park comprises of 4 separate Missions - Concepción, San José, San Juan and Espada. Each of these structures is worth a visit just for the architecture, history and overall experience if nothing else.

The most famous of all missions is 'Alamo' and it is not part of the Missions Park. Originally called "Misión San Antonio de Valero" this structure is as awe-inspiring as it's history. Go early at sunrise and you might get that picture perfect shot of Alamo with no tourists.

You might have seen pictures of River Walk and maybe it's on your bucket list. I am sure that you won't be disappointed and you might even start believing you are in Europe.
Arched stone bridges on the river, boats offering cruises along the entire way and those colorful and iconic umbrellas lining the riverside tables.

My only tip is don't be in a hurry here. Relax and absorb in the sights and sounds and of course try out cuisine of your liking.

The San Antonio River Walk (or Paseo del Rio)
A 15-mile city park and network of walkways along the San Antonio River, situated one level below the city's automotive streets. It is divided into three distinct sections: the bustling Downtown Reach, the art-focused Museum Reach, and the nature-oriented Mission Reach. The iconic colorful umbrellas on the San Antonio Riverwalk are primarily located at Casa Rio, the oldest restaurant on the Riverwalk, which has featured these vibrant primary-colored umbrellas since 1946.

The Alamo
A historic Spanish mission and fortress compound in downtown San Antonio, Texas, best known as the site of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. Founded in 1718 as Mission San Antonio de Valero, it is now a UNESCO World Heritage site and the most visited tourist destination in Texas.

San Antonio is gorgeous! It reminds me of Madeira funnily enough with the religious buildings and traditional architecture x

I absolutely adore San Antonio! Being a Texan, I have had the good fortune to be able to visit that city frequently. San Antonio has always been my most favorite city in all of Texas!

That canal looks lovely, with all those restaurants alongside. Some friends have actually been there and sent me some pictures from their dinner.
